چکیده

A review is given of the various ways in which humidity and liquid water can influence the friction and wear of metals, polymers, carbons and graphite, lamellar solid lubricants and ceramics. Compared with dry sliding, water usually reduces friction of materials to a limited extent, except for MoS2, but wear rates change depending on the materials concerned. Most of the fundamental mechanisms involved appear to be reasonably well understood, but uncertainties still remain concerning the role of humidity on the formation of third-body layers of aggregated wear debris.

Water Lubrication of Stainless Steel using Reduced Graphene Oxide Coating

Lubrication of mechanical systems using water instead of conventional oil lubricants is extremely attractive from the view of resource conservation and environmental protection. However, insufficient film thickness of water due to low viscosity and chemical reaction of water with metallic materials have been a great obstacle in utilization of water as an effective lubricant. Herein, the frictio...

Influence of Surface Passivation on the Friction and Wear Behavior of Ultrananocrystalline Diamond and Tetrahedral Amorphous Carbon Thin Films

Highly sp3-bonded, nearly hydrogen-free carbon-based materials can exhibit extremely low friction and wear in the absence of any liquid lubricant, but this physical behavior is limited by the vapor environment. The effect of water vapor on friction and wear is examined as a function of applied normal force for two such materials in thin film form: one that is fully amorphous in structure (tetra...

Effect of N2 partial pressure on the structural and mechanical properties of TaN films

TaN films with different N2 partial pressure were deposited on 304 stainless steel using the magnetron sputtering method. The effect of gas pressure on the mechanical property, morphology and phase structure of the films is investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), atomic force microscopy (AFM), microhardness testing, friction coefficient measurements, and wear mechanism study. The XRD results c...

Effect of Coating Materials on Wear in Internal Gears

Theoretical and experimental investigation of wear during coupling in internal gears coated with various polymeric coating materials was performed in this study. In the theoretical part of the study, Archards’ wear formulation was adapted to internal gears and wear behavior in various conditions was determined. Moreover, a fatigue and wear testing apparatus having similar working principle with...
